There’s a constant stream of customers thronging in and out of here for fresh fish and shellfish. Whole fish can be selected from a large table and cleaned and cut to order, or there’s a large counter with fish already skinned and filleted. Also, several sushi chefs work flat-tack. Adjoining the market are two fresh fish restaurants which are open daily.

A large delicatessen and foodstore, with an enormous selection of gourmet products and takeaway food. Zarbo’s own dressings, marinades, rubs and chutneys are excellent, and they also bake bread daily. Their bagels are authentic. The busy café offers a wide selection of freshly prepared food, coffee, tea and a wine list.

One of the true characters on the New Zealand wine scene, owner Kingsley Wood oversees a very successful wine store, which is hidden at the back of the Takapuna shops. Every Wednesday evening there’s a wine tasting for $10 and about 60 people attend on a regular basis. Excellent selection of imported and local wine and great service and help.

Tucked in behind the Viaduct in the building that houses the Sebel Hotel, Rockfords produces refreshingly interesting food to go (or eat in at the café tables). Its sandwiches, salads, and hot dishes are all tasty and appealing. There are also many deli items and good coffee.
