Conal Wattam ran the Taramea Winemakers’ Centre until his lease ran out and he decided to develop a vineyard on land he had bought at Bannockburn. Conal’s land, which is a north-facing slope high above Felton Rd, includes the old Carrick Dam that was the inspiration for its name. Until his land produces grapes, Conal has made a wine under the Olivine label from Shiraz and Merlot grapes grown near Lake Wanaka.

Shiraz, Viognier, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris will be planted on the Bannockburn vineyard and the wine made in a small winery with a cottage-style tasting room facility that will be Conal’s home until the first vintage.
