Several wineries have claimed the title of the southernmost winery in the world, but Geoff Weston seems the most legitimate claimant. In his backyard winery in the Dunedin hillside suburb of Wakari, Geoff makes single-vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir using grapes purchased from growers in the Cromwell and Roxburgh areas of Central Otago. (Geoff’s 2003 Roxburgh Chardonnay is thought to be the first to be sourced from the Clutha Valley town.) He also produces black- and red-currant wines.
