At Home And In The Mood

Typos are one thing, but instructions need to be accurate. If you’re making the very tasty-sounding Saigon sandwich (bahn mi) you do need to know that the pork shoulder is roasted whole and not sliced thinly as the ingredient list would lead you to believe.
It’s a shame because this is a great book for home cooks from one of Australia’s most respected chefs and restaurateurs. The appealing recipes use readily available ingredients and cover every occasion – such as the relaxed breakfast section and a lunch section that focuses on fabulous sandwiches and fillings. Mangan elevates the toasted sandwich and offers some divine-looking wraps (I’m looking forward to making the mu shu chicken wrap). There are also great soups, deliciously simple salads with interesting dressings and excellent recipes for barbecues, seafood and meat. The Asian-inspired dishes are easily achievable and the book is rounded off with some classic puddings.
