Owners Hannes Bareiter and Melanie Hartman don’t rest on the laurels of the vista here, despite commanding a premium seaside spot. Hannes is the head chef and deservedly earns great fame for his set-course ‘trust the chef’ lunches and dinners. There’s an element of delightful surprise as each course unfolds. With Melanie maintaining a consummate front-of-house operation, we receive the finest in both food and attention. Start with high-country salmon with wasabi, pineapple, lime, watercress and turnip. Every bite is as good as it could be. And so the menu continues through sublime offerings such as Jerusalem artichoke gnocchi, or tempura fish with cashew satay, cauliflower, coriander and raisin. Such is Tītī’s status that some suppliers are exclusive to the restaurant – all name-checked on the menu. Who needs a Southern Ocean view when you can feast your eyes on these sorts of treats? A carefully curated selection of wines matches each dish.
