The sense of history is palpable at Bellamys, not least in that your meal will be served on some of the original 1950s tableware all marked up with the parliamentary crest. Having to pass through parliamentary security adds an extra sense of spesh. The cuisine is fresh and modern and does an adept job of showcasing the delights that New Zealand produce has to offer. Head chef Joshua Ross – recently named Jeune Chef of the Year by international gastronomic society, Chaîne des Rôtisseurs – has a firm hand on the tiller and the standard is high indeed. The harissa-roasted market fish served with paprika squid is a case in point. A well-thought- out wine list makes for easy navigation. Service at the hands of maitre d’ Baili-Ann Francis goes beyond the call of duty.
