The dining room is cosy, opening out to magnificent views across the Hawke’s Bay landscape, and in warm weather dining moves out to the courtyard under the vines in front of the building. Try a wine flight of the estate wines in the tasting room before moving on to dine. The menu offers diners an opportunity to explore a range of flavours across the menu. Highlights include beautifully sweet scampi served with black pepper spaghetti and fermented shrimp butter, a rich yet balanced combination that lingered long after the final bite, tender beef eye fillet with red curry butter and grilled spring onion and ginger wine, or for a group don’t miss the roast shoulder of lamb with almond cream and a green chilli and coriander chimichurri. Dessert is equally impressive, with a delicate caramelised crêpe paired with burnt orange caramel and house-made vanilla ice cream. Combined with Black Barn’s estate wines, available by the glass, bottle or flight, it makes for a relaxed yet polished vineyard dining experience.
