Chef Sid Sahrawat is at the top of his game and, along with a hugely talented team, is making sure the world cannot ignore this Kiwi culinary treasure. Here on Symonds St, in arguably the most elegant dining room in Auckland, is the perfect palace for chef Sahrawat to hold court. Every detail is well considered – from the well-orchestrated welcome, through to the comfortably spaced white-dressed tables, to the pride of place given to New Zealand wines on the menu. Sahrawat’s food is, as expected, on point. Using the best ingredients he can source, he delivers innovation and consistency. This is fine dining, for sure, but he is very cleverly making the experience accessible with careful menu design. Aged duck is dished up with macadamia and carrot, mushrooms come with truffle, dashi and Comté. Add further jewels to the crown with the chocolate, coffee, blackcurrant and miso dessert.
