Spend a night or two in Picton and you will be well advised to eat at Sisu restaurant on the waterfront terrace. The stoic Finnish owners offer a haven where small sharing plates are offered food that’s appealingly Kiwi but given a Nordic twist. Try the prawn baguette “Skagen” inspired, with crème fraîche, lemon, dill, red onion, and fish roe, or beef meatballs with Bloody Mary sauce, cornichons and celery. It’s a really refreshing menu and well matched to a great selection of local wines, beer and NZ gins.
