Chef-owner Sam Lee (formerly of Ebisu and Amano) has opened IZU, a new venture bringing refined Japanese food with a Euro flair to the south Auckland suburb of Papakura.

Ponsonby’s AUGUSTUS BISTRO is set to reopen in October. New owners Robyn and Nick Jones, of Waiheke’s Mudbrick Vineyard and The Archive Bar & Bistro, are bringing in chef Logan Coath to infuse a European-Italian focus with an upmarket but relaxed ambience.

Seemingly unstoppable, Aaron Carson and Fran Mazza have opened yet another spot, FANG in Parnell, featuring Sichuan food.

Over on Waiheke THE SHED AT TE MOTU sees a changing of the guard, saying goodbye to Bronwen Laight and welcoming Michael Greig to the team as head chef.

Kira Ghidoni has taken over the helm as head chef at THE GROVE after working at the restaurant for several years under former executive chef Ben Bayly.

A newbie from Stu and Em Rogan, HELLO BEASTY promises a contemporary NZ menu inspired by the cuisines of Japan, Korea and China. Head to the Viaduct for a taste.

First it was Andiamo, then The Halcyon popped up, and now ANDIAMO is set to open again in its former corner spot in Herne Bay. Now under the care of Nourish Group and executive chef Gareth Stewart, they’re planning a family-focussed neighbourhood Italian trattoria, set to open in November.

REVOLVER is St Kevins Arcade’s newest arrival, where Oli Bradford serves up flavour-packed hoppers and other Sri Lankan street food.

FORT GREENE, formerly serving their delish sandwiches in St Kevins Arcade, have upped sticks. Don’t despair, the new digs are just a bit down the road at 327 K’ Road.

Gabe and Rachel Johnston formerly of Baobab in Newtown, Wellington have moved north to open beachside cafe, HULA in Whitianga.

Wellington’s signature restaurant HIPPOPOTAMUS farewells Laurent Loudeac after almost 11 years as executive chef. Taking over the reins is Jiwon Do, a former senior sous chef at the restaurant.

There’s a new executive chef at THE GEORGE, where Antony Page steps in to lead the team for Pescatore and 50 Bistro. Winery restaurant PEGASUS BAY farewells Teresa Pert and welcomes Jackson Smith to the role of head chef.
