WHY CHOOSE THIS RESTAURANT?
If you are looking for a taste of Malaysian or Singaporean cuisine in Auckland then look no further than this casual, family-friendly spot that’s always filled with locals in the know. The Treasure Kitchen team will guide you through their extensive menu with great pride.
ABOUT THE MENU
You’ll find many delicious hawker classics here, with generous portions designed to share. The Singapore chilli crab looks and tastes as beautiful as this iconic dish tastes in its homeland – the whole crab is immersed in a tomato-egg gravy, mildly spicy and deserving of a side of their crispy-golden fried mantou buns to mop up that iconic sauce. Crowd favourites such as beef rendang with nasi lemak, curry laksa or Hainanese chicken rice are all on the menu which also delivers some terrific sharing platters. Ours was a combination of lor bak (five-spiced ground pork wrapped in tofu skin and deep fried), salt and pepper soft shell crab and otak otak, a Peranakan classic of fish paste infused with aromatics and grilled to spicy perfection. The crispy-flaky roti made for dipping into a deeply-rich curry sauce is a destination all to itself, while the signature curried fish or the slowly- simmered pork ribs in a rich, comforting broth are worthy of your attention. We’ll be going back to try the cereal prawns with their crunchy coating of multi-grains, curry leaves and chilli, and we remain curious about a dish that reportedly has people returning again and again – the prosperity yam ring basket, which is a crispy yam ring filled with a choice of chicken, prawns, scallops and cashew nuts promising abundance and good fortune. However it is the fried oyster omelette with its plump juicy oysters swirled through savoury eggs with a lick of crispness to their edge and topped with the chef’s famous ‘soul sauce’ that is the dish that we most enjoyed. It picked up the 2021 Auckland Iconic Eats Award and it is definitely still a winner in 2026.

ABOUT THE TEAM
Head chef and co-owner Sam Ng developed his skills and craft in Thailand and Malaysia. His menu is as generous as the portions he serves, with tastes of China and India also weaving through his dishes. He works together with sous chef Kobe Loh to ensure the quality coming from within the kitchen remains a constant. Restaurant founder and co-owner Jennie Tan first opened Treasure Kitchen in Henderson, West Auckland in 2016 and although she plays a big part behind the scenes handling the day to day, it is evident in her huge smile that managing front of house is still her greatest pleasure. Everything in this busy restaurant is driven by heart and authenticity from the traditional flavours to the thoughtful presentation and the warm hospitality.
OF NOTE
Authentic Singaporean food is not easy to find in New Zealand and so it is a delight to find this restaurant on Great South Road, where those in the know go for their Singapore fix. Combined with its celebration of classic Malaysian dishes in a relaxed and friendly setting, it truly is an absolute treasure.
