Velvet-upholstered armchairs, quirky, meat cleaver door handles, lush wallpaper and lots of fireplaces – great for an Otago winter – make Botswana Butchery a very welcoming spot on the Queenstown waterfront. Settle down on the lakeside terrace or sink into big leather sofas, and put yourself in the hands of executive chef, Thomas Barta. You’ll need a while to do justice to the massive menu, and to be fair there’s a good selection of fish and seafood too, but it’s the steak selection that’s truly stupendous, served with your choice of sauces and butters and a good choice of sides and salads, too. It’s also good to see interesting options such as deer, goat and rabbit, too. Maybe you could top it all off with a Central Otago pinot from the extensive list.
