Honey? Hunny? Whatever – Nut Brothers Vegan Hunny is a plant-based sweetener made from the nectar of coconut flowers. It has a sweet, caramelly taste (interestingly not a trace of coconut flavour) that can be substituted directly for sugar, syrups or honey – mmmmm on a buttered, freshly baked scone. $8.99 for 360g. nutbrothers.co.nz

Take a cup of Kaitahi Frozen Smoothy Drops, add liquid and shake – that’s it, no blender needed, no mess, no worries. Omahu Valley Citrus is a family business run on a small farm south of the Coromandel Peninsula. Bringing the dignity of choice to Wellingtonians who’re facing challenging times, Wellington City Mission and New World have partnered up to create a Social Supermarket. The first initiative of its kind in New Zealand, the Social Supermarket is a safe place where customers who need food support can choose their own groceries from a wide selection of food and essentials in a normal supermarket environment. And it is all free of charge as the Social Supermarket works on a points system depending on needs. Foodstuffs North Island CEO Chris Quin hopes it helps remove some of the stigma of receiving food parcels.

Te Aro Wine, the Wellington- based urban winery, is relocating to New Plymouth and rebranding as Known Unknown. The first wines made under the Known Unknown brand were released in March 2021, having been made at Te Aro Wine in Wellington, while the winery team will make wine in Taranaki from the 2021 vintage with a first pick of Hawke’s Bay chardonnay delivered in March. Winemaker and owner Jules van Costello says, “Our wines are wild, and predictable only in their unpredictability. Our focus from 2021 is to make delicious, organically grown, naturally made wine at approachable price points.” The Known Unknown winery is on Davidson Street in New Plymouth and a wine room will open in October 2021.
