ABOUT THE FOOD

With French and American influences, it is still pure New Zealand flavour all the way. The shrimp cocktail is sublime, there is a lot to adore about the steak tartare and Shepherd’s chicken liver paté holds a firm rating in our soon-to-be-announced chicken liver paté appreciation society. The ‘plats principaux’ are served with salad, sauces and bottomless fries and the aged eye and scotch fillets, half a roast chicken or eggplant schnitzel will feed and soothe your soul. How could you go past a Caesar Salad Triomphant?

ABOUT THE CHEF

Chef Shepherd Elliott is hugely respected in hospitality circles. “One of the nicest chefs you’ll ever meet,” are the words often heard when Shepherd’s name is raised. He runs his kitchens in a calm and understated manner, is extremely down to earth and clearly has great respect for his ingredients. The end result is always thoughtful, interesting and deeply delicious. At Concord he is putting sophisticated spins on classics that have remained favourites for decades, for good reason.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Owners Sean Golding and Shepherd Elliott are a well-known Wellington hospitality duo. Shepherd’s credits include Ti Kouka and Leeds Street Bakery, while Sean is behind Golding’s Free Dive bar, The Intrepid Hotel and The Puffin. Together they run Cuisine Good Food Award-winning restaurant Shepherd on Hannah’s Laneway and now they have created Concord, adding their Midas touch to this much-loved 1950s Modernist building.
