OLIVIA MOORE SETTLES IN FOR SUNDAY LUNCH AT THE BRANTRY EATERY

Sundays are for gathering, connecting and lunching together. This winter, The Brantry Eatery is opening up for Sunday family-style lunches designed for just that. A real family affair, sisters Prue and Felicity Campbell have run the restaurant in Taupō’s historic Brantry House for 25 years, garnering plenty of stories for the dining table along the way. On rustic tables, and chairs adorned with gorgeous sheepskin rugs, enjoy three courses of share-style dishes to pass around the table. Adding to the interaction, the menu includes a pencil to mark your chosen dishes. Canapés and ciabatta are optional but shouldn’t be skipped (especially the parmesan and truffle beignets). The real highlight for my family was the roast lamb shoulder with salsa verde, cumin labneh and pinot jus, and those velvety-soft maple-roasted carrots with chilli crack Clevedon Buffalo curd, hummus and seed granola. While we’d stuffed ourselves, dessert always has a way of opening up a void in our stomachs, so our bowls of sticky date pudding and tiramisu were quickly scraped clean. The Brantry’s Sunday shared menu lunches are the perfect way to gather this winter, in a charming setting and with seriously delicious food. thatgreenolive.com

NICK ILES GETS THE MEX AT APAPACHO

The late Anthony Bourdain once said that he had “seen zero evidence of any nation on Earth other than Mexico even remotely having the slightest clue what Mexican food is about or even come close to reproducing it.” Perhaps if he had been lucky enough to visit Apapacho, Wellington’s newest Mexican spot, he may have changed his mind. I am heading over to find out exactly why it is so excellent. twobearsandwichclub@substack.com
