‘The Fed’ is Al Brown’s take on an old-school New York-Jewish delicatessan. What does that mean? It means latkes, lox and blini, matzo ball soup, goulash, pastrami, pickles, bagels and sandwiches, and pie for pudding. It’s a drop in kinda place with casual service and plenty of action from the chefs working in the open kitchen. Excellent-quality, fresh ingredients come from the kitchen, presented simply with no surprises. Larger share plates include spit-roasted chicken with gravy, NY strip steak and beautifully grilled lemon sole served with burnt butter. Save some room for the sensational ‘famous on Fed’ NY cheesecake served with whipped cream and strawberries. There’s a good selection of local wines and NZ craft beers on tap, and interesting drinks for kids such as floats and shakes.
