Fraser McCarthy and Shannon Vandy are the seasoned brains behind this operation at the top of Khyber Pass Road. Shannon has shed her cheffing background to handle front of house; Fraser remains in the kitchen. Between the two of them they deliver a consistently impressive effort, built upon their years of experience both elsewhere in Auckland and abroad. It’s evident from the start that these two love what they do, and that energy translates into what they deliver. Regulars regard a visit as their best-kept secret, and the menu is ever-changing, with full consideration given to seasonality. Choose from the à la carte mains (Leelands lamb, carrot, bitter leaves and saffron, for example) or immerse yourself in the full experience with the set-menu option. Either way, once you take your place in the long, elegant dining room with unfettered kitchen views, you know you’re on to a winner.
