The criteria for what makes a legend is a tricky one: creativity, longevity, popularity, someone who has many stories to tell about their adventures and endeavours. The career of this iconic chef has circled the globe. His ability to challenge the norm by skilfully fusing unexpected ingredients and techniques has contributed greatly to our understanding of the need to remain open and curious in our culinary undertakings, rather than being constrained by politically or geographically drawn culinary borders. His most recent venture at Homeland in Auckland includes a cooking school and a thriving hub for showcasing artisan producers as well as an all-day restaurant. The spread and depth of his endeavours have gained the venue recognition as the ‘Food Embassy for Aotearoa and the Pacific’. This, on top of his well-deserved, longstanding and internationally acknowledged reputation as the absolute king of fusion, makes renowned, widely respected and much-loved chef Peter Gordon (pictured above) our pead. Food Legend for 2023/2024.
